Man Arrested With Fake $2.1million At Lagos Airport (Photo)

45-year old Lawrence Agbe was
arrested by security officials at the
Muritala Mohammed International
Airport Ikeja Lagos while trying to
transport fake dollar bills totaling
$2.1 million from Lagos to Abuja.
While speaking on the arrest, the
Commissioner of Police for the
command, Mr. Fredrick Lakanu,
said during interrogation Lawrence
said the fake dollar bills were
owned by one Steve.
“After further interrogation, the
suspect mentioned one Steve
residing in Abuja as the owner of
the said €1.25m. But Steve is at

How Mastermind Of Jos And Zaria Bombings Was Arrested – Military

The Nigerian military has explained
how the suspected mastermind of
the Jos and Zaria bombings was
arrested.
The defence headquarters had
earlier tweeted that the unnamed
suspect was taken into custody in
Gombe after organising the two
attacks that killed 70 people
between Sunday and Tuesday.
The spokesperson for the Army, Sani
Usman, has given further details on
the arrest:
“Please recall that on Sunday 5th
July 2015, suspected Boko Haram
terrorists carried out coordinated
bomb and gun attacks on
worshippers at Ýan Taya mosque,
Dillimi Street, off Bauchi Road, Jos
where the holy month of Ramadan
tafsir was holding, and Shagalinku
Restaurant, along Bauchi Road, Jos,
Plateau State which led to death of
over 48 persons, injuring several
other persons and destruction of
property.
“Similarly, the terrorists carried out
another bomb attack on hapless
workers undergoing verification
exercise at Sabon Gari Local
Government Secretariat, Zaria
Kaduna State which resulted in the
death of over 25 people including a
two-year-old child and destruction
of property.
“Consequently, security cordon was
established in the general areas
especially along Bauchi, Gombe and
the North Eastern part of the
country by troops of 3 Division and
Special Task Force, as well as the
Department of State Services.
This culminated in the successful
arrest of the mastermind of the
heinous terrorist acts and two of his
accomplices at a checkpoint in
Dadin Kowa, Gombe State.
The terrorist kingpin and his
colleagues who disguised in a trailer
while trying to evade checks were
fished out by troops of Nigerian
Army.
“The arrested terrorists are
currently being processed for
further action and would soon face
the full wrath of the law.
“The general public are hereby
please requested to be more
vigilant, security conscious and
report any suspicious persons,
movements, and facilities to the
security agencies.”

University Of Ibadan Ranked Nigeria’s Best University, 8th In Africa

Since establishment in 1948, the
University of Ibadan, UI, has again
recorded another achievement,
emerging the best in Nigeria. The
enviable position of the university
arose from the latest ranking of
African universities and higher
institutions conducted by Journals
Consortium on 1,447 higher
institutions.
National Mirror learnt the Journals
Consortium made use of research
publications and citations from the
last five years (2010 to 2014) as well
as visibility on the internet. On
Africa point of view, the University
of Ibadan was 8th best university in
a ranking largely dominated by
South African institutions, which
occupied six of the first best 10
institutions.
The results of the ranking which is
available on the web (http://
ranking.journals consortium. org/),
revealed that South African
institutions dominated the top ten,
with University of Cape Town
topping the rank with Total
Influence factor (TIF) of 45.02,
followed by Cairo University (43.43)
and the University of Pretoria
(43.35).
The top ten include six institutions
from South Africa, two from Egypt
and one each from Kenya and
Nigeria (University of Ibadan).
First generation universities were in
top positions in the latest ranking
with University of Ibadan coming
8th in Africa and first in Nigeria,
followed by University of Nigeria,
Nsuka (13th), Ahmadu Bello
University, Zaria (18th), University
of Lagos, UNILAG, (20th), Obafemi
Awolowo University,Ile -Ife (24th),
University of Ilorin (31st), University
of Portharcourt (36th), Nnamdi
Azikiwe University (42nd),
University of Calabar (43rd), Federal
University of Technology (FUTA-49)
while the only private university in
the top list is Covenant University
which is placed 53rd in the ranking.
Reacting to the ranking, the Vice
Chancellor, University of Ibadan,
Professor Isaac Adewole, said the
vision of the university is to be a
world-class institution for academic
excellence geared towards meeting
societal needs.
He added that the university will not
rest on its oars until it ranks at par
with renowned universities and
higher institutions globally, saying
his administration was poised to
expand the frontiers of knowledge
through provision of excellent
conditions of learning and research.
The Vice Chancellor, however,
called for special funding status for
the university from the Federal
Government for its vision and
mission to be fully realised towards
transformation of the Nigerian
society through creativity and
innovation.

“We Planned Ikorodu Bank Robbery In 30 Minutes — Suspect

 
As fresh facts begin to emerge about
the Ikorodu banks robbery
operation where N80 million was
reportedly carted away a fortnight
ago, one of the suspects has
revealed that they planned the
operation at a meeting that lasted 30
minutes.
It was also discovered that 12
members of the gang were recruited
from the Niger Delta region.
This is just as the four suspects
arrested in connection with the
operation, which lasted close to two
hours, have confessed that their
gang was responsible for similar
operations at Ijede road three weeks
before that of Ipakodo also at
Ikorodu, and that of Lekki, where
five persons, including three
policemen, were killed.
The arrested suspects include
Omoboye, alias Alarm blow, 39;
Bright, 25; Ikuesan, 37, and Abiwa,
20.
The bank robbery, according to
Bright, was carried out by an 18-
man gang.
Bright, a graduate of English/
Christian Religious Study, CRS, from
the College of Education, Ekiadolor,
Edo State, said a meeting with
members of the gang, chaired by the
gang’s leader, whose identity he
gave as Million, was held in Abule
area of Lagos same day the
operation was carried out.
‘My role’
The father of two said: “Million is
our leader. I was introduced to the
gang by a friend named Akpan.
I joined because I had no means of
feeding my family. I am a wood
logger, but business has been bad.
“Akpan took me to the gang’s
meeting same day of the operation,
on June 24, at Abule Ishawo area of
Ikorodu.
Those of us from Lagos included
myself, M. O., Kelvin, S. K. Careboy
and Million, while the rest were
recruited from Warri, Delta State, by
Million.
“He also brought eight rifles and
two pump action guns from Warri,
including the two operational
vehicles.
He taught us how to aim at our
targets during the meeting, which
lasted 30 minutes, with each of us
instructed on what to do on
reaching the venue.
“My role was to stand outside, with
one of the pump action guns,
shooting sporadically.
I was also instructed to shoot at
anyone who dared to intrude, while
the boys recruited from Warri
confronted the police.
“I had over 900 cartridges. At the
end of the operation, we escaped in
a fibre boat and went to the creeks,
where the loot was shared.
At the creeks, we analysed the
operation and Million said we did
well, promising to use us for
subsequent operations.”
‘I got N2m’
“I was not allowed to go near where
the money was counted. Million and
other leaders counted the money.
But Akpan told me they got N80
million. I was given N2 million.
“I bought a Lexus SUV for N1.5
million and I gave my wife N30,000
to enrol for an exam. I also gave
some of my friends out of it and also
bought jerry cans for my brother,
who is a pipeline vandal.
“Million instructed those from Warri
to set the operational vehicles
ablaze before leaving the scene.
That was after the numbers plates
were removed.
“He collected the cost of the cars
from the loot before sharing the rest
among us. That was my first time of
joining them. I did not go with them
to the Lekki and Ijede banks
operations.”
Lekki, Ijede’s robbery operation
On his part, Omoboye, a boat
operator, said that he conveyed the
gang to all the three bank
operations.
Omoboye, popularly known as Baba
Ibeji, said he was given N400,000
from Lekki’s operation and N2
million each from the Ijede and
Ipakodo bank robberies.
He said: “At the end of the last bank
operation at Ipakodo, my boat
developed a fault as we were
escaping. If the police had come
after us, they would have arrested
some of us. But the leader of the
gang called another boat operator to
take us.
“On reaching their hideout at Abule
Ishawo, they did not allow us in
because we were considered
strangers that could sell them out to
the police.
“I got N400,000 from the Lekki
operation, N2 million from the
Ijede’s and N2 million from the
Ipakodo operation.
“We are into illegal oil bunkering;
we vandalise pipelines and also rob
people in the creeks. I have two
wives and five children, but my
wives do not know I am into armed
robbery.
“I bought a Lexus SUV for N1.15
million, four days after the last
operation.”

44 killed, 67 Injured In Twin Bomb Blast In Jos (Photos)

 
44 people have been confirmed dead
following a twin bomb blast that
rocked the city of Jos, Plateau state
yesterday night.
The first explosion happened inside
the Shagalinku restaurant located
along Bauchi Road while the second
one went off at Yantaya Mosque in
Nassarawa Gwon area of the state.
Muslim faithfuls were actually
listening to an Islamic message
when the bomb went off.
According to the Coordinator of the
National Emergency Management
Agency, NEMA, Abdussalam
Mohammed, 67 people were injured
in both attack.

Messi’s Family Reportedly Attacked By Chile Fans

 
Members of Lionel Messi’s family were
reportedly attacked on July 4, Saturday,
during Argentina’s clash with Chile in
the Copa America final.
According to Goal.com, the incident
happened during the first half when
relatives of the Barcelona’s forward
were verbally insulted by supporters
of host nation Chile.
After an angry verbal exchange,
Messi’s 28-year-old brother Rodrigo
was hit by one of the opposition
fans. Therefore, security had to
move the Messi family to a
television cabin during the interval
for their own safety.
Family members of Argentinian
striker Sergio Aguero’s were also
insulted by supporters of the Chile
national team.
Leonel Messi, in his turn, was
handed some rough treatment by
the rival defenders and was struck
in the chest by a violent kick from
Gary Medel in the first half.

Boko Haram Now Sell Seized Goats To Raise Money For Fuel

From the survivor of Boko Haram
attack on a Borno town came the
startling revelation that Boko Haram
insurgents were selling goats and
other livestock seized from owners
during series of attacks on the
communities to buy petrol.
“They took away our goats, chicken
and other livestock after attack on
Kukawa and other neighbouring
villages. They also seized our
property, claiming Allah has
bestowed these things to them.
But when people started returning
to Kukawa before the start of Rama­
dan, Boko Haram men started
selling the goats, chicken and some
of the items back to people who
were even the original owners in
the first place.
They said they were raising money
to buy petrol to fuel their vehicles
and motorcycles because petrol was
being sold for N1,000 a litre in
Kukawa before the last attack
(Wednesday),” Danladi Umar who
fled the troubled Kukawa town,
north of Borno following the
Wednesday Boko Haram attack
disclosed to Sunday Sun.
A group of Boko Haram insurgents
last Wednesday launched
coordinated attacks on Kukawa, a
serene community around the Lake
Chad bordering Niger.
Sources said residents; mostly
peasant farmers and fishermen, had
barely assembled in the major
mosques for the break of the
Muslim fast when the armed men
came to unleash terror on them.
“They rounded up people in
mosques and opened fire on them.
They also pursued those trying to
escape and shot them. About 97
people were killed while the
insurgents also set fire on houses,”
one of the sources disclosed.
But Danladi who appeared famished
shortly after arriving Maiduguri
following two days of trekking in the
bush, said the casualty figure was
higher, insisting that about 120
people were massacred.
“It is more than 97, there are corpses
everywhere, about 120 people may
have died.
The insurgents burnt many houses
and wrecked havoc in Kukawa,” he
said. He said an historical tree in the
town was cut off following heavy
shooting by Boko Haram.
He said life has gradually returned
to Kukawa, about 192 kilometres to
Maiduguri, after the February
repeated attacks in the area and
Baga, a neighbouring commercial
community, until the group struck
last Wednesday.
He said many children who had
gathered at a place where women
fry and sell bean-cake were caught
up in the sporadic gunshots. “Most
of the women and children at a
place where bean-cake are sold
were shot dead.
The women were frying bean-cake
and selling pap to those willing to
use it to break their fast since the
time for breaking of fast was
approaching.
Some of the children were also
there to buy bean-cake. Kukawa, an
historical town, north of Borno, was
reported to be the place where the
first Shehu of Borno received two
British Explorers to the Bornu
Empire in 1822 and 1834
respectively.

Ekiti PDP Accuses Buhari Of Harbouring Wanted Murder Suspect In Presidential Villa

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
has described as worrisome and
embarrassing, President Mohamadu
Buhari’s meeting with Ekiti State
chairman of the All Progressives
Congress (APC), Chief Jide Awe, in
the Presidential Villa despite that he
(Awe) is wanted for alleged murder
in Ekiti State.
Jide Awe, who is facing murder trial
over his alleged involvement in the
murder of Ayo Murphy Jeje and Mrs
Juliana Adewummi in Erinjiyan-Ekiti
in Ekiti state in 2013, had
disappeared into thin air but was
sighted in Aso Villa with President
Buhari in a photo-op on Friday.
State Publicity Secretary of the PDP,
Jackson Adebayo said in a release
issued in Ado Ekiti on Sunday that it
will amount to a direct show of
support for murder for President
Buhari to have allowed Jide Awe
into the Presidential Villa.
The statement read; “We heard that
President Buhari said he is going
reopen cases of political murder.
Yet, the same president allowed into
Aso Villa, Jide Awe, who has refused
to make himself available for trial
for alleged murder even after a
Federal High Court in Jos vacated an
interlocutory injunction preventing
Jide Awe from being arrested and
tried for murder.
“We frown at this open display of
insensitivity to the agony of the
families of those who were allegedly
murdered by Jide Awe and others,
and we want to believe that
President Buhari was not well
briefed on his (Awe) evasion of trial.
“Perhaps, President Buhari was
unaware and his security details
who should also know did not
inform him that Jide Awe and four
other members of the APC, namely
Faboro John, Aniramu Basiru, Falayi
Busuyi and Owonifari Sefiu were
declared wanted by the police
fortheir alleged involvement in the
murder of two persons in Erinjiyan-
Ekiti, Ekiti State, on March 31, 2013.
“Justice A. Lewis-Allagoa of the
Federal High Court in Jos had also
ruled in December last year that
nobody can tie the hands of the
police from performing their
constitutional duties, saying an
earlier order he granted, restraining
the arrest of Jide Awe and others,
was just for a limited time.
“Since the court vacated its order
restraining Jide Awe’s arrest and
trial for alleged murder, he has
remained a fugitive.
“It was therefore worrisome and
embarrassing that sucha person
could be granted access to the
Presidential Villa and be allowed to
take photographs with the
president.”

Suicide Bomber Kills Six At A RCCG Church In Potiskum, Yobe State

 
A suicide bomber has today killed six people
at a RCCG church on Sunday in Potiskum,
a town in northeast Nigeria hit by
suspected Boko Haram attacks in the
past, a Red Cross official and a
witness said.
“People were just going to the
church when the bomber entered,
otherwise the casualty figure would
have been higher,” said Red Cross
official Hassan Alhaji Muhammad,
who visited the scene of the blast on
the outskirts of Potiskum.
A hospital in Potiskum said it had
received the bodies.
Suspected Islamist militant gunmen
and bombers killed more than 200
people last week in a spate of
bloodletting that prompted renewed
outrage and calls for an
international meeting to coordinate
the offensive against Boko Haram.
French President Francois Hollande
said the Boko Haram threat was
getting stronger and that he was
ready to hold a summit, following
one in Paris in May 2014, to gather
the leaders of countries fighting the
insurgents.
New Nigerian President
Muhammadu Buhari is due to visit
his counterpart in Cameroon after
the Muslim holy month of Ramadan
and meets U.S. President Barack
Obama on July 20, when the fight
against Boko Haram is likely to be
high on the agenda.
Potiskum is in Yobe state next to
Borno, a remote state which is Boko
Haram’s stronghold in Nigeria and
borders Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

Fraudsters Are Defrauding Nigerians With Our Name – Chibok Girls Parents

Parents of the abducted students of
Government Secondary School (GSS)
Chibok, Borno, on Sunday alerted
the public on the activities of some
fraudsters using their names to
defraud Nigerians and corporate
bodies.
More than 200 students of the school
were abducted by suspected
insurgents on April 14, 2014, while
writing their final examination.
Mr Yakubu Maina, the Chairman of
the association of parents of the
abducted girls, raised the alert at a
news conference in Maiduguri.
“We wish to alert Nigerians and
corporate organisations on the
existence of some individuals and
organisations masquerading as
parents of Chibok girls to defraud
them of their money.
“The call became necessary because
this group have turned the agitation
for the release of our daughters into
a scam,” he said.
Maina, suppported by the Secretary
of the association, Mr Lawan Zanna,
lamented that the group had often
deceived some parents of the girls
into attending their functions only to
be duped.
“We have realised that the whole
thing have been turned into
business by individuals who pretend
to be fighting our cause.
“Some real parents had been lured
to attending meetings with highly
placed individuals in Abuja and
beyond only to discover that they
have been short changed by these
individuals,” Maina said.
He said that 14 parents of the
abducted girls have died due to
heart related diseases.
“Fourteen parents have so far died
since the abduction of our girls in
2014.
“Most of them died due mainly to
heart related diseases and trauma,”
said the chairman.
