Shocking Revelations About Ailing Olumide Bakare’s N7m Fundraising

The unfolding drama about the state of health of popular Yoruba
actor, Olumide Bakare and the N7million Nigerians are raising to care
for him has taken a new twist as shocking angles to the story
emerged on Saturday.
Investigations by Greennews.ng ‘s team revealed on Saturday that
the actor is indeed in hospital, quite ill. However, an extensive chat
with the managing doctors at the University Teaching Hospital (UCH),
Ibadan and doctors in charge of his (Olumide’s) treatment revealed
that his ailment, though critical, did not require immediate surgical
attention as Nigerians were made to believe.
According to the medical practitioners, Bakare is suffering from two
distinct ailments; pulmonary embolism and Aortic aneurysm.
According to our in-house medical specialist and writer, Dr. O,
“Pulmonary embolism is a condition that occurs when the blood
vessel carrying blood from the heart to the lungs gets blocked
(usually by blood clots). The condition can be life threatening.
“And Aortic aneurysm is a bulge in the aorta (the main blood vessel
carrying blood from the heart to the rest of the body). It is caused by
weakening of the walls of the blood vessel. If this bulge bursts, it
could lead to severe internal bleeding that may eventually lead to
death.”

The first ailment, treatment of which is critical to his survival at the
moment, could be resolved either with drugs or surgery. The doctors
at UCH say they are exploring the first option and Greennews.ng
exclusively gathered that the actor is not listed among patients up
for the theatre at surgical section of the hospital.
Some of his doctors who also spoke with Greennews.ng said the
amount needed for his treatment to be concluded was around
N200,000. They however explained that for his other ailment, Aortic
aneurysm, he would have to be flown abroad for a special surgery
but that they say is not immediately.
The mess hit the fan late on Friday night after Best Of Nollywood
(BON), one of the organizations that helped with fundraising for the
actor, pulled out saying it doubted the sincerity of the actor on the
amount being asked for.
When Greennews.ng spoke with ace entertainment journalist and
founder of BON, Seun Oloketuyi on Saturday, he confirmed that his
organisation withdrew because it uncovered that the amount being
sought after by Bakare was way above what the doctors required for
his treatment.

“We pulled out because we discovered from his doctors that he was
not as ill as he claimed. It all started when we got a call from his
image maker who told us of his state of health, and as a caring
organisation, we did what we could to help.
“But when we found out the truth, and we did not want to be
accused of scamming Nigerians when people like you
(Greennews.ng) start investigating, so we pulled out and wrote our
story as a disclaimer. We have no fight with him whatsoever. We
just told the truth to avoid soiling our own name.”
When Greennews.ng queried him on why the situation was not
investigated initially before Nigerians were asked to donate, Oloketuyi
stated that they did not expect such a daredevil move from someone
like Bakare.
“We did not expect a 70-year-old man to do such a thing,” he said.
“We have already raised N3.2million for him, and he would have got
another 3million on Monday had we not found out. His doctors said
though he was ill, he is already getting better and could be released
soon. You can see that in our
report.”
Greennews.ng investigations and the chat with Oloketuyi above
confirmed that Olumide Bakare really is sick. What remains unclear is
the reason behind the raising of millions of naira in funds for his
treatment when he appears at the moment to need way lesser than
the amount being asked for.
Is it because a fellow actor Pa Kasumu, who recently fell ill, was able
to get multi-million naira aid for his treatment and even got a new
house from concerned Nigerians and fans and he (Bakare) just wants
to play on the intelligence of his loving fans and caring Nigerians for
his own material gains. Or is it because he (Bakare) is keeping the
money safe for the future (maybe near or far) when, as his doctors
at UCH have predicted, he might need further extensive medical
attention?

Greennews.ng has no answers to these questions as yet because
efforts to speak with Bakare have proved abortive as his phone was
picked up by an aide on the first call. A second call to his phone
after 30minutes as requested was also picked up by the same aide
who said he (Bakare) was still receiving medical attention from his
doctors.
Greennews.ng will bring you the answers and other details from this
unfolding saga when we get through to Bakare.
