As The Guardian Newspaper Has Done, APC Must Apologise For Lying – Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele
Fayose has said that the All
Progressives Congress (APC) must
apologise for lying to Nigerians on
the health status of its presidential
candidate, Major-
General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd),
using pictures taken in Transcop
Hilton, Abuja and claiming that the
pictures were taken in London.
Fayose said “it was interesting that
the loquacious APC Spokesperson,
Lai Mohammed could develop a
cold feet and muscle pull in his
mouth such that he suddenly
realised that he could not join issues
with Fayose.”
In a statement issued by his Special
Assistant on Public Communications
and New Media, Lere Olayinka,
Governor Fayose said; “The Chatham
House one hour event scheduled for
Thursday was paid for by the APC
with the hope that Buhari will be
well enough to appear in public
briefly by Thursday.
“The Event Contact person, Chris
Vandome confirmed via phone call
that the event was ‘Jointly
Sponsored’ by the APC and Chatham
House.”
The governor said; “Having lied so
brazenly that Buhari
granted interview in London, using
pictures taken in Transcop Hilton,
Abuja, it is obvious that the APC is a
party of deceitful people that should
not be taken seriously by Nigerians.
“If APC ssys that today is Tuesday,
Nigerians should check calender to
be sure.”
He hailed The Guardian newspaper
for being honourable enough to
publish an apology yesterday, on the
false picture it used on Sunday,
asking:
“When is APC going to be humble
enough to apologise to Nigerians?
“Hopefully, the APC expects to
bombard Nigerians with pictures of
Buhari’s one hour appearance in
Chatham House on Friday, using
that to cover up the real reasons he
travelled to the United Kingdom.
“However, we expect them to
publish pictures of Buhari’s
departure from the Abuja Airport,
Buhari queuing at the Airport to
board his flight as they claimed,
Buhari being interviewed by
journalists at the Airport, Buhari
boarding his flight and waving at
those who followed him to the
Airport and Buhari being welcomed
at the Airport in London.
“If actually Buhari travelled out of
Nigeria under a normal condition,
could he have passed through the
Abuja Airport without any of
the aviation journalists interviewing
him?
“So, those covering up Buhari’s
health issue should know that his
paid appearance at Chatham House
on Thursday will not do the PR they
are expecting. Rather, it will raise
further questions which they can
only answer by saying the truth and
apologising for the lies they told,”
the governor said.

terrorist group, Boko Haram to the
callous bombing of soft targets in
parts of Nigeria in the wake of the
ongoing rapid recovery by gallant
Nigerian troops and their
multinational allies of areas
formerly controlled by the sect.
President Jonathan commiserates
with all families who have lost
loved ones in the bombings which
continued today with attacks on
Kano and Potiskum.
The President shares the grief of all
the bereaved families and is deeply
saddened by the continued loss of
many innocent lives at the hands of
misguided and desperate fanatics
who are now feeling the heat of the
intense counter –insurgency
operation by the Nigerian Armed
Forces.
The President assures all Nigerians
and the people of the North-Eastern
states in particular that the days of
mourning victims of incessant
terrorist attacks in the country will
soon be over as the tide has now
definitely turned against Boko

Yanga!!!Nigerian Boxing Champion, Bash Ali Lands In Kuje Prison

The running battle between
Nigeria’s World Boxing Federation,
WBF, cruiserweight boxing
champion, Bashiru Lawrence Ali,
a.k.a. Bash Ali (OON) and the
Managing Director of NEXIM Bank,
Robert Orya has landed the Edo
State-born pugilist in Kuje Prison in
Abuja.
Bash Ali has several times alleged
that Orya demanded a bribe of $10
million out of the $30m which
President Goodluck Jonathan had
asked the bank to release to the
Local Organising Committee, LOC, of
the Guinness Book of World Records
fight which the boxer plan to stage
in Nigeria.
Bash Ali said: “On Wednesday, 18
February, NEXIM Bank’s Executive
Director, Customer Service, Bashir
Wali invited me for a chat, while
waiting, the MD, Robert Orya, who
on 6 May 6, 2014 asked for a private
chat which I turned down drove in,
saw me and members of the LOC
and ordered security to beat us up.
The security men broke the head of
our driver and damaged the
vehicle.”
According to the boxer, he and some
members of the LOC were arrested
by the police and taken to the
Federal Secretariat Command of the
force in Abuja and were later
transferred to the FCT Command
before being finally taken to SARS
on the same Wednesday.
“On Thursday we were arraigned at
the Magistrate’s Court, Cotonou
Street at Wuse Zone 6. At the end of
the proceedings the Chief Magistrate
agreed to grant me bail of N1
million with surety of a Level 10
Federal worker, which I refused.
This forced the police to remand me
at Kuje Prison till 4 March when the
case will come up again.
“Fellow Nigerians, is this how we
will allow corruption to continue in
our dear country?” said Bash Ali
through a text message he sent out
at the weekend.
P.M.NEWS Sports gathered from a
police source that Bash Ali is being
tried for criminal trespass,
obstruction in public way, wrongful
restraint and criminal intimidation,
contrary to Sections 79, 85, 348, 194,
266 and 397 of penal code.
The source said that Ali was arrested
on Wednesday at about 2p.m after
one Mr. Bisong Peter of NEXIM Bank
reported him at the Central Police
Station.
He was arrested alongside five
others when he trespassed into the
premises on the bank, using a bus to
block the entrance into the building,
thereby restricting staff from getting
into their offices.

said that he believes the leader of
the insurgent group, Boko Haram,
Abubakar Shekau, responsible for
thousands of deaths, will be
apprehended by government forces
before Nigeria’s elections starting
March 28.
Mr. Jonathan disclosed this in an
interview with Thisday newspaper
on Friday.
”God willing we will catch Shekau
before the elections,” Mr. Jonathan
said in response to a question on
what his government is doing about
Mr. Shekau’s threat to disrupt the
elections.
Mr. Shekau, whose group has killed
over 15,000 Nigerians, has remained
elusive since the sect launched its

AGAIN!! Jega Tells Senators He Can’t Guarantee Elections Will Hold March 28

The Chairman of the Independent
National Electoral Commission,
INEC, Attahiru Jega, has told
Nigerian federal lawmakers he could
not guarantee the 2015 general
elections will hold on rescheduled
dates in March and April.
At a meeting with Senators
Wednesday, Mr. Jega said he could
not commit himself to the “sanctity”
of March 28 and April 11 – dates for
the rescheduled Nigeria’s general
elections.
He said the electoral commission
could not guarantee aspects of the
poll that are beyond its control.
Mr. Jega met with the lawmakers to
review the decision to postpone the
polls from February.
Under the Nigerian law, a further
six-week extension of the elections
is possible, a prospect opposed by
many Nigerians, the main opposition
All Progressives Congress, APC, and
the international community.
INEC had said the postponement
were necessary for security reasons,
as military chiefs had warned
against going on with the vote to
allow it focus on fighting the terror
group, Boko Haram.
But the APC said the delay was
instigated by President Goodluck
Jonathan, to save him and ruling
party from losing the elections to
the APC candidate, Muhammadu
Buhari.
Since announcing the new dates
nearly two weeks ago, the
commission has declined to clearly
confirm that there will be no further
delay beyond March 28 and April 11,
for presidential, National Assembly,
governorship and state assembly
polls.
Responding to a question by George
Akume, Senate Minority Leader, on
the sanctity of the new dates, on
Wednesday, Mr. Jega said it was
difficult for him to respond, saying
he could only give assurances over
aspects within the control of INEC.
“That’s a very difficult question to
answer. I have said not everything
that has to do with the conduct of
successful election is within the
control of INEC,” Mr. Jega said.
Use of card readers
Mr. Jega also said the commission
will go forward with its plan to
deploy card readers for the
elections.
There have been some concerns,
mainly from the ruling Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, about the
plan as Nigerian law prohibits
electronic voting.
On Wednesday, while PDP Senators
opposed the plan, their APC
counterparts welcomed it.
Heineken Lokpobri, a PDP Senator
from Bayelsa State and Odion
Ugbesa, from Edo State, argued
against the use of card readers for
the elections, saying it would be
illegal.
In his response, Mr. Jega said card
readers would only be used for
accreditation not actual voting.
He said there was no law forbidding
the use of electronic devices for
accreditation.
“Card reader is used for
accreditation not voting. Voting his
defined as dropping of ballot paper
into ballot box. Accreditation is
essential for integrity of the
election,” he said.
“Nothing in the constitution says we
should not use electronic device in
the process of accreditation.
Anybody that is not satisfied can go
to court. We have solid ground on
that,” he said.
He added that the card readers
would curb electoral malpractices,
as cloned cards would be detected.
Mr. Jega said INEC will perform a
mock test on the card readers.
He said some tests had already been
taken in the United States, and will
now be tested in the six geopolitical
zones.
“The card reader has passed in all
the 13 test categories conducted in
terms of its durability and
versatility,” he said.
Mr. Jega said the postponement of
the general elections will enable
INEC to have a flawless, near-perfect
elections.
INEC National Commissioners are to
visit state offices to conduct
evaluation and comprehensively
determine the level of preparation
in the election.
He said after the visit, the
commission will meet with the
heads of departments and
directorates of units to conduct a
comprehensive assessment, to figure
out additional things to be done
before March 28.
Mr Jega said a meeting with the
inter-agency committee on security
will hold a meeting to discuss
security on the Election Day.

Doyin Okupe Reacts To Obasanjo’s Endorsement Of Buhari

The Senior Special Assistant to the
President on Public Affairs, Dr.
Doyin Okupe has reacted to former
President Olusegun Obasanjo’s
prediction that a new government
will be formed on May 29, 2015.
It would be recalled that while
speaking on election postponement,
Obasanjo in an interview with
Financial Times in Nairobi on
Monday said: “I’ll only go by the
constitution.
By our constitution, there must be a
new government on the 29th of May
and the constitution lays out how
that new government should
emerge”.
Obasanjo also endorsed the
presidential candidate of the All
Progressives Congress, Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari.
Reacting Tuesday night, Okupe
wrote on his Facebook page:
“Someone was reported to have said
“A new government will be installed
on the 29th of may 2015″
Lamentations 3 vs 37 says “Who is
he that saith, and it cometh to pass
when the Lord commandeth it not?
Isaiah 7 vs 7 says “Thus sayeth the
Lord God, it shall not stand neither
shall it come to pass.”

APC Full Of Toronto Certificate Holders – Sambo

Vice President Namadi Sambo at the
weekend in Yenagoa knocked the
leadership of the opposition All
Progressives Congress (APC) for
parading falsehood as the plank
upon which to accelerate Nigeria’s
development.
He mocked the leadership of APC,
describing them as a group of
persons who hold questionable
“Chicago and Toronto certificates”.
He stressed that the country’s future
must not be in the hands of such
political characters.
Sambo was speaking at the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) presidential
campaign in President Goodluck
Jonathan’s home state, Bayelsa,
which was held at the Samson Siasia
Stadium, Yenagoa.
He admonished the APC to realise
that “transforming Nigeria is not by
accident”, adding that opposition
presidential candidates must be
very educated to understand the
dynamics of change, growth and
development.
The vice president said the APC
presidential candidate, General
Muhammadu Buhari, at 73, does not
have the requisite capacity, strength
and verve to pilot the affairs of a
sophisticated nation like Nigeria.
According to him, the
transformation of the country by the
PDP-controlled Federal Government
was under the safe hands of a well-
read President who is a Ph.D holder
supported by a vice president, who
is also a professional architect.
Sambo said Jonathan had not
disappointed Nigerians as he had
transformed the country, shoring up
its status to the largest economy in
Africa.
“The leadership of APC is full of
Chicago and Toronto certificate
holders. Nigerians don’t want people
who will parade Chicago and
Toronto certificates.
“Mr. President has not failed
Nigerians. He has transformed
Nigeria, making it the largest
economy in Africa. Transforming
Nigeria is not by accident. He is
educated and we need education,
not prisons.
“Jonathan has built 14 universities
in four years. Do you want schools
or prisons?” he asked the crowd at
the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.
Sambo, who stated that they were
not in Bayelsa to campaign but to
thank the people of the state, noted
that the state did not make a
mistake to produce Jonathan.
He listed the completion of the
ongoing cargo airport, East-West
Road and the building of a new
railway from Lagos through Yenagoa
to Calabar as the additional
programmes the Federal
Government would do for the state.
Sambo, who called on the people to
vote for PDP as they had always
done, urged them to collect their
PVCs to enable them vote their
choice.

Four Women Arrested Over Stolen Baby Girl

Four women are now cooling their
heels at Ogidi Police station in
Anambra State over a stolen two
months-old baby girl.
The baby said to have been stolen
from her mother at Nnewi was said
to have been sold for N625, 000 by
an Enugu based woman (names
withheld).
The four women now in police
custody included three sellers.
During an interview with Daily
Independent, the buyer said that she
resolved to procure the baby girl
because she needed a female child
that would look after her when she
would be old.
“I have a male child but I want a
female child that will look after me
when I become old. The boy will not
nurse me more than the girl”, she
said.
When asked if the husband was
aware of her plan to buy the baby,
she spoke in the affirmative, saying
“he was aware and asked me to
carry on”.
Confirming the arrest of the buyer
and sellers, the Divisional Police
Officer (DPO), in charge of the Ogidi
Police Station, Mr. Hassan Musa,
said that the baby has also been
recovered and that she is in police
custody while effort is on to get the
mother.
Musa said he was satisfied with the
confessional statement of those
arrested, adding that two of the
women that sold the baby are based
in Abatete and Onitsha.
He said “We had to move to Enugu
to get the baby on arresting the
buyer days after and now we are
moving to Nnewi to know how the
mother of the baby will feature”.
He reiterated the resolve of the
Division to stop all illegal sale of
babies in the area.
Musa disclosed that it was on a tip
off that the police arrested the
sellers while they were waiting for
the buyer to come from Enugu,
Enugu State.

MI Reveals Why Artistes Didn’t Donate Funds For OJB’s Medical Operation

He indirectly rapped about this
matter in one of the songs off his
new album “Human being”, and
he’s making reference to the matter
again.
Arguably the best rapper in Nigeria,
MI Abaga has revealed why artistes
didn’t donate for OJB’s kidney
complications.
MI said the fear of being ridiculed
made many artistes not to give cash
to the producer.
In his words: –
“First of all, I have the utmost
respect for Nomoreloss as a human
being.
He was definitely one of the people
that had a platform that put us on.
He is always showing me love,
always giving me good advice.
“I haven’t seen him since, and I
dread seeing him because, I can
imagine that for that one comment,
he’ll be disappointed. ‘Yo M.I, why
didn’t you reach out to me.
“But this what happened; OJB was
sick and people were trying to raise
money.
I all of a sudden went 0-100 broke,
like instantly. All of a sudden there
was letters going out, ‘like this
person didn’t contribute, why would
you ask a publicist (to write a letter),
and it became a big thing.
What caught me was the fact that
Nomoreloss who was a fellow
artiste, and he’s writing letters
saying, ‘Why won’t artiste come out,
why won’t D’banj speak out and say
he didn’t donate this money?”
“Everybody was confused, every
artiste was confused, so one or two
things started happening. A certain
artiste told me that he went and
contributed the little money that he
had, and by the time he got home, it
was put in the broadcast, ‘this is
how much you gave’.”
And it was embarrassing because
somebody else is giving N5 million,
and you have your little N100,000.
“Already, everybody was in that
N100,000 category, of which there
was maybe 20, 30 people.
Automatically it’s like ‘Yo, I’m gonna
keep my N100,000, I’m not trying to
be embarrassed. On the second
hand, you have artistes, like myself,
who were just confused, if we were
to go, what would have happened,
what would we see, because it had
become a media thing.
OJB later got the help he needed
when the Governor of Rivers State,
Rotimi Amaechi, funded the surgery.
M.I Abaga recognizes that, but
believes that more discretion and
understanding should have been
applied by Nomoreloss.
“At the end of the day, Nomoreloss
can hold his head high because OJB
did get help. But the comment in the
song came from the fact that I
remember reading back to back
articles and people were just
insulting 2face (Idibia); this guy gave
you all the music and you couldn’t
even even help him. People didn’t
know at the time, 2face’s Dad who
had later gone on to pass away from
kidney complications was in India
undergoing the same thing.
“I was privy to one moment when
they needed money right there and
then, and 2face was caught between
Lagos and Abuja, he was trying to
get money for people to send. It was
rough for some people.
People had issues every day, you
know Iyanya lost most of his family
in one year, but we never see that
side. What we see is what you
should be able to do based on our
perception of who you are.
“At least not from a fellow artiste. A
fellow artiste should understand,
and thankfully it didn’t become
controversial. That’s the truth of
what I wanted to say in the
moment.”

Gen. Buhari Speaks On Obasanjo Publicly Endorsing Him

In an interview with Christiane
Amanpour on CNN this evening, APC
presidential candidate Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari reacted to
former president Obasanjo publicly
endorsing him.
When asked by Amanpour how he
felt about it, Buhari said;
“ I am happy about it. It means
more supporters and more
confidence for those still sitting on
the fence. He’s well respected.
No serious issue can happen (in
Nigeria) without people seeking his
opinion and listening to it”
Read what Obasanjo said about Buhari
yesterday Below:-
At the launch of his controversial
book, The Watch, in Kenya
yesterday, former President
Olusegun Obasanjo endorsed Buhari,
saying;
“ The circumstances [Buhari] will be
working under if he wins the
election are different from the one
he worked under before, where he
was both the executive and the
legislature, he knows that.
He’s smart enough. He’s educated
enough. He’s experienced enough.
Why shouldn’t I support him?”

Nigerian Military Reportedly Storms Sambisa Forest To Flush Out Boko Haram Insurgents

The Nigerian military has reportedly
embarked on an operation in
Sambisa Forest to flush out Boko
Haram members who have made the
location their hideout.
An unnamed source told Punch that
the military decided to commence
the operation as a measure to help
make the Northeast safe for the
upcoming elections.
The Nigerian Air Force reportedly
started raiding the forest on
Monday, while simultaneous
surveillance activities and raids by
the military were ongoing.
“The military has started the
operation in the Sambisa Forest; the
operation started on Monday.
For now there is no specific cases of
arrest, we don’t have that
information now. The Air Force has
been operating in the area since
Monday. It is after that that the
ground troops who are on red alert
would move in.
Also, a source close to a security
office strategic to the operations of
the Federal Government said on
Wednesday that a lot of activities
were going on simultaneously in the
Sambisa area and other parts of the
North East,” the source said.
The publication further reports that
“…it was gathered that the military
authorities are combing the Sambisa
Forest because of intelligence
reports that some of the insurgents
who were dislodged from some of
the communities were withdrawing
into the forest.”

Adeboye Curses Pastors Collecting Bribes From Politicians

The General Overseer of the
Redeemed Christian Church of God,
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has warned
that pastors collecting bribes from
politicians risk the wrath of God.
The renowned cleric said this on his
official Facebook page on
Wednesday while reacting to
allegations by Rivers State Governor,
Rotimi Amaechi, that the Peoples
Democratic Party had bribed some
pastors with N6bn to work against
the All Progressives Congress and its
presidential candidate, Maj. Gen
Muhammadu Buhri (retd.).
Adeboye, said, “I read in the
newspaper this morning that one of
the serving governors in Nigeria said
that some pastors in Nigeria collected
N6bn from politicians for the purpose
of influencing their members to vote a
certain candidate in the coming
elections.
“May I humbly request that if there be
any pastor or pastors who collected
such money, they should please return
such as quickly as possible before the
fire of the Almighty consumes you.”
Amaechi, had on Tuesday, told his
supporters not to be deceived by
pastors, whom he said, were
campaigning against Buhari because
he was a Muslim.
He had said, “Some pastors collected
N6bn and they are circulating
document and telling you not to vote
for an Hausa man; not to vote for a
Muslim; that they want to Islamise
Nigeria. Tell them to return our
N6bn.
“They gave them N6bn; they should
return it to the Federal Government
coffers. They will tell you that
Buhari wants to Islamise Nigeria;
tell them we are too educated.
“I am a Catholic, but no Catholic
priest has told me that story right
now in the Catholic Church because
I will ask him how. If any pastor tells
you that, tell him to return the
money.
“Nobody can Islamise Nigeria; they
have commercialised Jesus Christ.
They should stop commercialising
the Christian faith. You know what
Jesus Christ did in the temple? He
chased them away.”

T-72 Tanks Used By The Military To Destroy Boko Haram [See Photos]

Nigeria welcomes three T-72 M1
main battle tanks (MBT), to fight
Boko Haram, IHS Jane’s Defence
Weekly reports. Additionally, the
source informed of other types of
armoured vehicles (BMPs) and anti-
tank complexes being shipped to
Nigeria via air transport.
The total price of the delivery was
estimated at USD8m
(N1,536,400,000). Excalibur Group
company (Czech Republic), that
specialises in refurbishing military
equipment, was one of the
contractors.
A total of 16 vehicles have been
transported via Antonov An-225
(Mriya) aircraft from Ostrava-
Mosnov airport to the end user’s
location since January 26, 2015.
It would be noted that the recent
success of the Nigerian Army may
be attributed to use of heavy tanks
for military operations in Michika
and Madagali.
Boko Haram insurgents, who use
ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns mounted
on their vehicles, cannot penetrate
the explosive reactive (ERA) armour
of a T-72.
The terrorists have RPG-7 anti-tank
hand-held grenade launchers that
are able to damage the MBT.
However, RPG’s firing range is
500m, while the T-72 can demolish
any target from the range of 3-5km.
Facts about T-72 MBT:
– over 25,000 built since 1973;
– exported in over 40 countries
worldwide;
– price USD1…2m. May increase
drastically depending on
modification;
– first ever world championship for
militaries operating T-72 took place
in Russia in August 2014.

Don’t Vote For Pres. Jonathan, He Has Been A Total Failure – Wole Soyinka

Soyinka on Thursday declared that
no one should vote for President
Goodluck Jonathan, as his leadership
has been a complete failure,
according to Sahara Reporters.
He reportedly made this declaration
at the 2015 edition of Vision of the
Child (VOTC) event in Lagos, a
yearly programme inaugurated in
2012.
Soyinka said to the students present:
“I will not vote and I will not
encourage anyone to vote for the
continuation of this government,
simply because your colleagues
numbering over two hundred were
kidnapped.
And the government of this nation
failed to show leadership. So
anyone who says after that event
that I will vote or cast my vote or
encourage anyone to vote for this
regime must be living in Sambisa
forest…
There has been a failure of
leadership. Our children whom you
represent today have been
betrayed…
After that dereliction of duty, after
that failure of leadership, after that
betrayal for our future, for anyone
to think or to put words in my
mouth suggesting that I will vote or
encourage anyone to vote for this
regime is a travesty of intelligence.”

BreakingNews : Court Urged To Stop Jonathan From Running

Barely 12 days to the general elections,
a suit has been filed at the Federal
High Court, Abuja challenging the
eligibility of President Goodluck
Jonathan.
The plaintiffs, who are Prof. Tunde
Samuel, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, Mr.
Razak Adeosun and Yahaya Ezemoo,
are pleading with the court to
restrain Dr. Jonathan from
contesting, putting himself forward
and or accepting to contest for the
office of President, Federal Republic
of Nigeria at the 2015 presidential
election.
The only defendant in the matter,
which is already assigned to Court 7,
is the President.
No date has been fixed for the
hearing of the application, which
was filed by a team of crack lawyers
mostly Senior Advocates.
The counsel in the matter are Yusuf
Ali (SAN), A. B. Mahmoud(SAN),
Adebayo Adelodun(SAN), Sirajo
Chedi (SAN), Dr. Tunji Abayomi,
Prof. Wahab Egbewole, K.K. Eleja
and A.O. Usman.
Six more Senior Advocates will join
the team whenever the legal
fireworks begin because the
plaintiffs have asked for two SANs
from each of the six geopolitical
zones.
Relying on Sections 135 to 146 of the
1999 Constitution, the plaintiffs
averred that Jonathan cannot take
the oath of office more than twice as
president.
They also said under the
constitution, any President of
Nigeria cannot be in office beyond
eight years of two terms.
They said if Jonathan is allowed to
contest and is sworn in as president,
he would be spending 10 years in
office contrary to the spirit and
intendment of the 1999 Constitution.
They urged the court to determine
three issues and sought for six
reliefs in the originating summons.
The plaintiffs’ prayers are as follows:
*whether having regards to the
intendment and general scheme of
the Constitution, especially the
provisions of sections 1 (1) &(2), 135
(1)& (2), 137(1)(b), 140 (1) &(2),142
(1)&(2) and 146(1)(3)(b)(c) thereof, it
is constitutional, lawful, legal and
permissible for a person to occupy
the office of the president for a
cumulative and or aggregate period
of more than eight years;
•whether having regards to the
intendment and the general scheme
of the Constitution, especially the
provisions of Sections 1(1) & (2) and
135(1) thereof, the defendant is
eligible to seek re-election or contest
for the office of the President of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria for
another term of four years, which
will bring his cumulative and or
aggregate period in office as
president beyond the eight years
maximum period allowable by the
Constitution;
•whether having regards to the
intendment and the general scheme
of the Constitution of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as
amended) especially section 1(1) &
(2), 135 (1)&(2), 137 (1)(b), 140 (1) &
(2), 142(1)& (2) and 146(1) (3) (b)&
(c) thereof, the period the defendant
served as President from May 6,
2010 to May 28, 2011, ought not to
be reckoned with and taken into
cognisance in computing the total
period he has spent and could spend
in office as President of Federal
Republic of Nigeria.
The plaintiffs asked for these reliefs.
•a declaration that having regards to
the provisions of the Constitution, it
is unconstitutional, unlawful, illegal
and not permissible for any person
to occupy the office of the President
for more than a cumulative and or
aggregate period of eight years when
the country is not at war and it is
practicable to hold election into the
office of President;
•a declaration that having regards to
the Provisions of the Constitution,
the defendant, is not eligible to seek
re-election into the office of
President for another term of four
years from 2015, as that would have
permitted him to occupy the office
of President, for more than the eight
years maximum period allowable by
the Constitution for anyone to
occupy the office of the President;
•a declaration that in computing the
period already spent in office as
President by the defendant, the
period from May 6, 2010 to May 28,
2011 should / ought to be reckoned
with.
•a declaration that having spent a
period of more than four years in
office as President reckoned from
May 6, 2010, the defendant is
without competence, eligibility,
authority or entitlement to contest
for the same office for another term
of four years;
•an order of injunction restraining
the defendant from contesting,
putting himself forward and or
accepting to contest for the office of
President at the 2015 presidential
election;
•and, for such further or other relief
(s) to which the plaintiffs may be
found entitled by the Honourable
Court in consequence of the relief(s)
earlier adumbrated on the
Originating Summons.
A member of the legal team, who
spoke in confidence, explained why
the latest suit is different from
others before on the eligibility of
Jonathan.
The source said: “The suit is
challenging the eligibility of Mr.
President to spend beyond eight
years in office in the light of
constitutional provision that forbids
any person to stay in office beyond
eight years.
“And also there is a court decision in
an election petition case on
Adamawa State, where it was held
that no circumstances should
warrant anyone to hold an elective
office beyond eight years.
“In Marwa and 1 other v. Admiral
Murtala Nyako and others (SC
141/2011), the court held that ‘the
constitution has no room for a
cumulative tenure exceeding eight
years.’
“This suit is different from the
previous ones challenging Mr.
President because he had neither
declared his intention nor was he
confirmed as a presidential
candidate for 2015 polls.
“Thus, the previous suits were
speculative. This suit is hinged on
the fact that having spent six years
in office, the president is seeking
another term of four years. Yet the
constitution says a President can
hold office for two terms of eight
years.”

Pres. Jonathan Was Not The Target In Today’s Bomb Blast – Police

The Nigeria Police says President
Jonathan was not the target of the
bomb blast that happened outside
the Pantami stadium, venue of the
PDP Presidential rally in Gombe
state earlier today.
In an interview with Premium
Times, the Gombe state Police
command spokesperson, Fwaje
Atajiri, said GEJ had long gone when
the female suicide bomber stormed
the road close to the venue of the
rally.
“The president was long gone before
the blast and if not for media, he
would not (have known of the blast)
so he could not have been the
target.
The suicide bomber was heading to
her target when the bomb she was
carrying went off in an empty place
prematurely because of the high
level of security put in place.
The suicide bomber and a passerby
were the only casualties, while six
persons were injured but not fatally.

Chelsea Sign Cuadrado From Fiorentina

The Colombia international has penned
a four-and-a-half-year deal at Stamford
Bridge, with Mohamed Salah expected
to move on loan in the opposite
direction
Chelsea have completed the signing
of Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado.
The Blues had long been in
negotiations and the Serie A club’s
coach, Vincenzo Montella, revealed
on Friday that a deal was in place,
with Mohamed Salah expected to
head in the other direction on loan.
Cuadrado has signed a four-and-a-
half-year deal at Stamford Bridge,
after Andre Schurrle’s £22 million
move to Wolfsburg was confirmed.
Having starred for his country at the
World Cup, Cuadrado had been
linked with summer moves to
Barcelona and Manchester United,
but no deal ever came to fruition
with either club.
Fiorentina insisted throughout
January that their prized asset
would only be allowed to leave if his
release clause was paid in full –
reportedly around £26m.
And it has now been confirmed that
he will join the Blues and help the
club’s push for success in the
Premier League, League Cup and
Champions League.
Cuadrado moved to Europe in 2009,
joining Udinese from Independiente
Medellin, before signing for
Fiorentina in 2012.

Governor Amosun Of Ogun Stoned By Tasued Students As He Ran For Cover [See Photo]

The Ogun State Governor, Senator
Ibikunle Amosun while on a
campaign visit to Tai Solarin
University Of Education, Ijebu-ode
on Thursday, 29th January was
attacked by some angry students of
the State-owned university who
appeared not to have forgiven him
over his numerous attempts to
initially scrap the institution.
On his arrival to the institution,
TASUED students on campus who
became aware of his presence
immediately trooped out in large
numbers.
Initially, it appeared to the
Governor and his campaign team
the students had gathered to cheer
them.
There was a wind of change when
some students hurriedly brought out
sachets water (pure water) and in a
jiffy, it became a chorused act as
other furious students joined in
stoning Governor Ibikunle Amosun
with various objects they could lay
their hands on.
The Governor became ruffled before
he was able to run to safety and
quickly drove off with his convoy.
Before now, Amosun had been
against the existence of the
university, giving reason that two
state universities were too much for
his administration to handle.
This led to various protests by
students of TASUED, as well as the
death of a student leader, Com.
Tunji Fashina.
Also, Nigerian Universities
Commission, NUC as a result of
Amosun’s refusal to adequately fund
TASUED delisted courses offered in
the university from 48 to 23.
Just recently, Accounting course got
delisted as a course in TASUED.
This development has left many
students frustrated.
DAILY POST has gathered that
TASUED Vice Chancellor, Prof.
Oluyemisi Obilade is seen as an
accomplice as she remains
undisturbed with the various
happenings in the school system.
