Praise for Hazard as Chelsea visits Spurs

travel to White Hart
Lane on Thursday.
Jose Mourinho's side
will attempt to respond to Sunday's 1-1 draw with
Southampton by claiming victory at Tottenham
Hotspur to guarantee they retain their place at the
head of the Premier League table.
And left-back Luis believes winger Hazard will be
one of the key figures as the Blues attempt to
extend their ten-game unbeaten run against their
London rivals.
The Brazil defender said: "Eden Hazard can easily
win a game for you and open a closed defence,
and he can be in the top three in the world in the
next few years because he has a lot of quality and
ambition to be there.
"I am really happy to be his teammate because he
is one of the greatest players I have played with."
Chelsea remain three points clear despite dropping
points at St Mary's Stadium thanks to Manchester
City's unexpected failure to beat struggling Burnley
at home in a 2-2 draw.
And Luis believes there were enough signs in the
performance at Southampton to suggest the Blues
can continue to fend off all challengers during the
second half of the campaign.
"We know that we lost two points in a difficult
stadium but the team did really well in the second
half, and if we play like we did in the second half
we can be in this situation until the end and keep
going at the top of the league," he told the club's
official website.
"It is going to be really difficult because when you
are top, everybody wants to take you off there and
play like Southampton did because they played
really well, but we did enough to win this game. If
we play like this, of course we can win things.
"We are still top of the league and the first half of
the season is over now.
"The second half of the competition is the more
difficult one and we have to keep the level really
high because we know it is going to be really
difficult, but we are happy because it is not easy
being top of the league for the whole competition
until now.
"We feel that if we keep playing in the second half
[of the season] like we are playing now we can be
there at the top of the league at the end."
Luis is being eased into his first season in England
and could make way for Cesar Azpilicueta after
starting at Southampton while Oscar could return
in place of John Obi Mikel.
Tottenham are beginning to find their feet under
new manager Mauricio Pochettino and Sunday's
scoreless draw with Manchester United
consolidated their standing in seventh, two points
off fourth place.
Pochettino's side are keen to avenge the one-
sided 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in
early December and winger Nacer Chadli is
convinced the outcome could be different this time
around.
Speaking to the club's official website, the Belgium
winger said: "Manchester United was a difficult
game. We showed patience and we had some
chances but we have to be realistic also - United
had the bigger chances in the first half and they
played well.
"In the end we did our best and we got one point,
but I think we put on a good performance.
"I think we have a lot of confidence at this moment,
we had a good draw on Sunday and we have been
winning games as well.
"No games are easy but Newcastle beat Chelsea so
why can't we beat them?" he added. "We have to
play our game and we'll see how we go."
Kyle Walker is back in contention and will
challenge Vlad Chiriches for the right-back slot.

prefer a contract extension to a transfer back to
the Premier League
Gareth Bale has dismissed speculation linking
him with Manchester United by hinting that he
could stay at Real Madrid beyond the end of his
contract in 2019.

For presiding over the affairs of
Nigeria as its president in the last
three years, President Goodluck
Jonathan has pocketed N4.323
billion as salary.
In the same vein, he had within the
last three years,paid N626.422
million as tax to the country.
The years which the president
earned the salary and paid the tax,
according to document from the
Federal Inland. Revenue
Service,FIRS, he released to the
Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC, were 2011,2012
and 2013.
The document which was placed at
the INEC office at Area 10, Abuja,
showed that the president, in
2011,2012 and 2013, received the
said amount.
The document showed that the
president yearly salary stands at
N14, 410, 290. 48 yearly.
The president also paid a total of
N626, 422, 175 million as tax in the
years under review.
The income tax clearance certificate
from the Federal Inland Revenue
Service, Abuja with Ref. No: ABJ/
MDA/PAYE/09690150 and dated July
2 2014, revealed that in Year 2011,
2012 and 2013, he received a total of
N4,323, 087,144 salaries.
But the total amount of tax paid for
three years is N626, 422, 175
While he paid N1, 242, 670, 21 as tax
in 2011, Jonathan paid N2, 510,
775.77 for 2012 and 2013.
The document tagged: “To whom it
may concern”, indicated that the
president’s source of income was
“employment”.
The clearance which was stamped
and received in the Legal Services
Department of INEC on December 18
2014 reads: “This is to certify that
Dr. JONATHAN, Ebele Goodluck
(Presidency) has paid income tax
assessment for the past three years.
Meanwhile, the Code of Conduct
Bureau has cleared Vice President
Namadi Sambo to contest the 2015
general elections.
The letter of clearance was issued by
the chairman of CCB, Mr. Sam Saba,
to Sambo for the 2011 general
elections.
It reads: “This is to certify that Arc.
Namadi Sambo, the Vice President
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
has never breached any of the Code
of Conduct for public officers as
contained in 5th schedule to (sic)
the constitution of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, (1999), and has
been declaring his assets as and
when due.
He is therefore cleared to contest
the 2011 Presidential election.”

Ojota Dump Site To Be Converted To A Golf Course – LAWMA

Olusosun dumpsite that stinks to the

The news is that Lagos State Waste
Management Authority (LAWMA)
said yesterday that it would soon
turn the Olusosun dumpsite in Ojota
into a golf course.
Tagged as Nigeria’s most popular
refuse dump, Olusosun has been a
subject of foreign documentaries in
the past because of the many
activities of scavengers at the site.
The managing director of LAWMA,
Mr Ola Oresanya, said the golf
course project would come under
the agency’s second 10-year-rolling
plan.
“In the rolling plan, we are focusing
downstream and our downstream is
at the disposal sites.
Our landfills development is a real
focus, we already sign contract for
development of our state of the
heart landfills sites at Epe and
Badagry.
And those landfill sites are the real
focus for the next rolling plan and a
site also will be located in Ogun
state.
That is around Mowe/Ibafo area that
we took over.
Then we will close down the
Olusosun dumpsite completely and
turn it into golf course. We will
continue to build transfer stations
and material recovery plants in
Lagos”.
“Those are parts of the ten year
rolling plan and we will increase our
waste conversion to almost 70 per
cent to 80 per cent of the wastes we
generate in Lagos.
The wastes will now be converted to
something very useful within that
ten years rolling plan.
Then, we want to make sure that we
get the economics of waste
management very well and the
economics must be perfect within
the next ten year.

Commission, INEC, has released the
names of the presidential candidates
and their running mates who will
contest the 2015 elections.
Although there are 26 registered
political parties in Nigeria, only 11

to run for the presidency.

NDLEA Arrests Students, Two Others For Drug Trafficking [See Photo]

Four suspected drug traffickers
between the ages of 24 and 44 have
been arrested by officials of the
National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala
Mohammed International Airport
(MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos.
The suspects are: Omidiya Taiwo
(44), who works at a foreign
automobile company; Anikwe
Chukwudi Charles (25), a hotel
attendant in Lagos; Igwe Nelson
Chidi (24), a student, and Agomuo
Ekwutosi Basil (44), an Imo State-
based farmer.
About 6.135 kilogrammes of illicit
substances were seized from them.
The NDLEA Lagos Airport
Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar gave
the breakdown of the seized drugs
as 4.290 kilogrammes of heroin; 570
grammes of methamphetamine and
1.275 kilogrammes of c*****e.
“Omidiya Taiwo was found in
possession of 525 grammes of
c*****e and 1.540 kilogrammes of
heroin.
He ingested 87 wraps and concealed
others in his pants on his way to
Spain.
Anikwe Chukwudi Charles was
intercepted with 570 grammes of
methamphetamine concealed in the
handles of his luggage on his way to
Malaysia.
Igwe Nelson Chidi was found with
750 grammes of c*****e hidden
under his luggage and Agomuo
Ekwutosi Basil was caught with
2.750 kilogrammes of heroin hidden
inside his luggage while returning
from Pakistan.
They are cooperating with our team
of investigators and will be charged
to court soon”, Umar said.
Taiwo, who works in Spain, said he
was introduced into drug trafficking
by a friend.
“I have been living in Spain for the
past 14 years where I work with an
automobile company. My friend in
Barcelona called me and requested
that I should bring drugs to Spain.
He even contacted somebody who
gave me the drugs in Lagos.
After swallowing 87 wraps, I hid the
remaining in my pants because the
wraps were many.
I was sad when the drug was
detected at the airport because I
would have made a fortune from it”,
Omidiya, who hails from Ogun State,
said.
Charles said he was on his way to
Malaysia for studies when he was
caught with the drugs.
“I was working as a hotel attendant
in Lagos when a customer asked me
if I am a graduate.
I told him that I have five credits but
could not go further in my education
because of lack of finance.
He promised to help me and he
used to give me money any time he
came around. He called me that he
had completed my admission for
further studies in Malaysia.
That was how he paid my travel
expenses and gave me a bag to take
to Malaysia.
He said his friend would collect the
bag from me and assist me secure
my admission.
Unfortunately, drug was found
inside the handle of the bag he gave
me”.
Chidi, who hails from Imo State,
said: “I got admission two months
ago to study Tourism and Hotel
Management in Cyprus.
While in Nigeria, a friend in Cyprus
called me to bring narcotics for a fee
of E5,000.
That was how I got involved in drug
trafficking. I wanted to use the
money to settle my fees and buy
books for my study.
This is a big setback for my career”.
“I am a farmer in Imo State. It was
difficult for me to feed my wife with
one child because of hardship.
A friend invited me to Pakistan and
promised to sponsor my trip and
help me secure a good job.
When I got to Pakistan, he told me
there was no job but that I should
take drugs to Nigeria.
He promised to give me N500, 000
to start up my business if I
succeeded in taking the drugs to
Nigeria.
Since life was becoming unbearable,
I decided to take the risk.
I was, however, not lucky as I was
arrested at the airport in Lagos”,
said Basil, in his confessional
statement.
Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA,
Ahmadu Giade, reiterated his
warning to drug trafficking
syndicates that the agency would
continue to intercept narcotics,
arrest traffickers and prosecute
them.
“We have put in place measures to
intercept narcotics this end-of-year
season.
Drug traffickers planning to smuggle
drugs through the country shall be
apprehended and prosecuted.
I am happy with the arrests,
particularly that of 25-year-old
Anikwe Chukwudi Charles, a hotel
attendant, who was taking drugs to
Malaysia where drug trafficking
attracts capital punishment”, he
said.

My Parents Took Me To Boko Haram, Says 14-year-old Kano Suicide Bomber

The girl, who was identified as Zahra’u
Babangida, was arrested in Kano on
December 10 following a double suicide
bombing in a market that killed 10
people.
She was presented to journalists by
police and instructed to recount how
Islamist militants allegedly forced
her to take part in the attack.
She said her mother and father, both
Boko Haram sympathisers, took her
to an insurgent hideout in a forest
near the town of Gidan Zana in Kano
state.
She said one alleged militant leader
asked her whether she knew what a
suicide bombing was.
“They said, ‘Can you do it?’ I said no.
“They said, ‘You will go to heaven if
you do it.’ I said ‘No I can’t.’ They
said they would shoot me or throw
me into a dungeon,” Zahra’u told
journalists.
There was no way to independently
verify her story and she had no
lawyer present. No information was
available concerning the
whereabouts of her parents.
Police said they had instructed the
girl to tell her story to boost public
awareness about those responsible
for the December 10 attack.
Faced with the threat of death,
Zahra’u said she finally agreed to
take part in the attack but “never
had any intention of doing it.”
Several days later, Zahra’u said, she
and three other girls, all wearing
explosives, were brought to the
Kantin Kwari market by unidentified
men.
Zahra’u said she was injured when
one of the girls detonated her bomb
and then she fled the scene, ending
up at a hospital on the outskirts of
Kano where she was discovered to
be carrying explosives.
Boko Haram has increasingly used
female suicide bombers, including
teenagers, as part of their five-year
insurgency.
Kano, the largest city in the mainly
Muslim north, saw four such attacks
in one week in July, while similar
bombings have hit the states of
Bauchi and Niger.
Experts say the group has used girls
as bombers to demonstrate the
range of tactics they have available
to sow fear across Nigeria.
If confirmed, Zahra’u’s story would
be the first known case of parents
volunteering their daughter to take
part in a deadly attack.
Violence in northern Nigeria has
intensified in recent months, raising
security fears ahead of February 14
elections.

Lagos State deports 70 to their states

deported 70 northerners, found

they were held for months and

President Jonathan To Acquire A New Private Jet?

President Goodluck Jonathan is set
to acquire a new private jet to be
added to the presidential fleet in
2015, according to reports.
The Federal Government has set
aside an initial deposit of N400
million to be paid to the
manufacturer of the aircraft.
Provision for the new jet was made
in the 2015 budget which was
presented by the Minister of
Finance, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala to
lawmakers at the National Assembly
in Abuja.
The Presidency has also reportedly
budgeted N215,635,713 for food stuff
and catering N26,663,050,469;
N12,917,727,634 for personnel,
N11,165,322,836 for overhead
costs,N24,083,050,470 for recurrent
expenditure and N2,579,999,999 on
capital projects

UNILAG Lecturer (Also A Politician) Dies In Auto Crash

Ibadan politician and UNILAG
lecturer, Hon. Adepegba Adegbenjo
has died in a car crash. The lecturer
died monday, 22nd of December,
2014 in a car crash. According to
Comrade Jeremiah Olatinwo, the
Zonal Public Relations Officer (South
West), National Association of
Nigerian Students (NANS), who
confirmed his demise, said it is a big
blow to the students, lecturers and
the university community at large.
Late Adegbenjo was a member of
the House of Representatives from
2003 to 2007 where he represented
Ibarapa Central/North Federal
Constituency on the platform of
Alliance of Democracy. He had also
clinched the 2015 Labour Party
ticket for Oyo South senatorial
district before his tragic death.
Adegbenjo, 52, is survived by two
children.
