Topic: - UNDERSTANDING THE ABRAHAMIC BLESSING [Sunday August 30]

Memorise:
Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. Numbers 23:20

Read: Genesis 27:27-29
27  And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:
28  Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
29  Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

Message
When God called Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3, he instructed him to do certain things, while He promised to bless him in specific ways. One of the articles of this blessing in Genesis 12:3 was:
"And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."
We can infer from this Scripture that when a man is operating under the blessing of Abraham, his friends will also be blessed, and his enemies will most likely be cursed. Thank God we have access to the blessing of Abraham through Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:14). When a man is blessed, his children are also blessed. The blessing of God on an individual can affect the genealogy of that fellow. Your generations can be blessed because of you. God did not just promise to bless Abraham, He actually fulfilled it. The testimony of Abraham's servant in Genesis 24:34-35, clearly shows God's faithfulness to Abraham. Every good promise the Lord has made to you shall be fulfilled in Jesus' Name.

Now, how can we define blessing? There is a generic definition of blessing and a spiritual definition for it. When all of your needs are being met and you still have extra resources left, generically, you can be said to be blessed. In other words, you cannot be said to be blessed when you are living from hand to mouth or you are begging. To be considered as blessed, there must be an overflow of resources. David in Psalm 23:5 spoke of his cup running over. After you have had enough for yourself and your immediate family, and you still have surplus, generically, you can be said to be blessed. It is good to be healed from a sickness, but it is better to be healthy.
You are considered blessed when, instead of just being healthy, the healing virtue flows through you. This shall be your portion in Jesus' Name. On the other hand, the spiritual definition of being blessed is the attainment of a state in which all the forces on earth, in heaven and under the earth are summoned to come to the aid of a person in his or her bid to succeed or excel. This was exactly what happened to Jacob. Isaac commanded the heavens, the earth and all people to help Jacob succeed (Genesis 27:28-29). In the Name of Jesus, the dew of heaven will favour you, the earth will yield her fatness to you, people and nations will willingly serve you, and you shall remain head everywhere you go.

Prayer Point:
Father, release the dew of heaven to me, grant me the fatness of the earth and let nations, situations and circumstances bow down to me.

Obasanjo Is A Liar, Economic Illiterate – Wole Soyinka

Nobel laureate and playwright, Prof. Wole
Soyinka, has lambasted former president
Olusegun Obasanjo, saying he has no respect for
him.
Soyinka, Obasanjo
The Punch reports that hurled insults at the
former president on yesterday night, Friday,
August 28, while he was responding to questions
during a programme tagged: ‘An evening with
Wole Soyinka’, organised by Globacom. Recall
that the former president, in his book titled ‘My
Watch’, referred to Soyinka as someone who is
good at hunting and wines but a political
illiterate. However, when the Nobel laureate was
asked to comment on the former president’s
assessment of him in his book, Soyinka said that
he was hardly bothered because he believed that
Obasanjo was a liar.

Soyinka said: “Obasanjo is entitled to his opinion.
But the question is: ‘Who respects the opinion of
a liar?’ I can spend the whole night proving that
he is a liar. Obasanjo was once described by an
economist, the late Prof Ojetunji Aboyade, as an
economic illiterate. They nearly ‘went into blow’
that night. It was Prof. Mabogunje who separated
them. “So, if an economic illiterate calls
somebody a political illiterate, no problem at all.
“In ‘ My Watch’, Obasanjo told the first lie when
he said he deplored lies. Anybody who said he
never plotted to have an unconstitutional third
term in office, even as a writer, I need a word to
describe him.”
The feud between the former President and the
Nobel laureate did not just start today. Obasanjo
had once stated that Soyinka once vowed that the
differences between the two of them would not be
resolved on earth. Obasanjo had also in his book,
My Watch, and at public events described
Soyinka as an expert in wine matters than in
political analysis.

He had said: “For Wole, no one can be good, nor
can anything be spot-on politically except that
which emanates from him or is ordained by him.
His friends and loved ones will always be right
and correct, no matter what they do or fail to do.
He is surely a better wine connoisseur and a
more successful aparo (guinea fowl) hunter than
a political critic.
“Wole Soyinka is a gifted man. I have always
acknowledged that but he is a bad politician and I
have also always said that. That is my own point
of view. He may agree with it, he may not agree
with it. For instance, I know that if I want
somebody to give me the best wine, one of the
people I will go to is Wole Soyinka and I know he
has a taste for good wine and I said that in the
book.”
Just recently, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the leader of
Afenifere said former president, Olusegun
Obasanjo is a tragedy to the Yoruba people.

Topic: - WHEN HE BECKONS TO YOU [Saturday August 29]

Memorise:
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. John 7:37

Read: Exodus 3:3-4
3  And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
4  And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

Message
When a king beckons to you, it means you have caught his attention. In Esther 5:1-3, when King Ahasuerus saw Esther standing in the inner courts of the palace, he immediately raised his sceptre towards her. By so doing, he was inviting her to come nearer. When God beckons to you, you can be assured that things are definitely taking a new turn from that moment. This was the experience of Moses. For 40 years, Moses was at the back side of the desert looking after his father-in-law's sheep; but one day, this well-read and once very promising heir to the throne of Egypt (now turned shepherd boy) encountered the burning bush which was not consumed. He heard God beckon to Him saying "Moses, Moses". From that very moment, his story was never the same.

God beckons to you when the day of your favour dawns. There is a user of this devotional: you have invested so much time and money in acquiring several degrees but you have not been able to use them. It appears God has forgotten you for some years, and you have been wondering when the opportunity will ever come for your certificates to work for you. Rejoice! Your time of favour has just dawned. God has just remembered you and is presently beckoning to you. Within the next three months, your life will go through a transformation, to the extent that it will be difficult for you to believe this is happening to you. When the Lord does this for you, do not forget to appreciate Him and testify of it.

In 1969, while doing my postgraduate programme in Mathematics, a friend of mine was doing his research on the coastlines of Lagos, and so he needed to visit all the coastlines and take samples from them. He decided to go to Ebute Metta, Lagos, for some samples. Because we were friends and I was available, I accompanied him. At Ebute Metta, we saw a very large signboard which read "The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG)". Looking to see what the big signboard was referring to, we only saw a very little church. I turned to my friend and said "The big name killed a small dog!" We laughed and left. Four years later, somebody invited me to the same RCCG for the first time, saying "There is a small church at Ebute Metta where God is performing miracles." I told him I had seen that church before - the small church with the big signboard. Imagine what God is doing today after beckoning to me. May you heed God's beckoning in Jesus' Name.

Action Point:
What you look down on today may be your saving grace tomorrow. Ask for divine guidance in all you do.

Topic: - HE STILL SENDS BIRDS [Friday August 28]

Memorise:
And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook: and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there. 1 Kings 17:4

Read: 1 Kings 17:2-6
2  And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
3  Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
4  And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5  So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
6  And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

Message
Our God is awesome, and His ways are beyond finding out. Nobody can box God into a pattern or regimen. He can use anything He chooses to achieve His purpose on earth. God uses those who are lowly placed, and He also uses the rich. Luke 8:1-3 tells of some wealthy women who ministered to Jesus from their resources. Mary Magdalene and other women blessed by the Lord resolved to serve Him with the resources they had. Are you rich or wealthy? Do you serve the Lord with your substance? Experience has shown that those who have little are the ones who dare to give their all to God.

This was the case with the widow who dropped her mites (Mark 12:41-44). Usually, the rich only give a fraction of what they have because they believe they are giving something big. However, God does not judge by size, He judges by proportion. Hence, the poor can give more than the rich in the sight of God, even if what they give is not as much as what the rich have given in quantity. Justifying why the widow's gift was more than what the rich gave, Jesus in Mark 12:44 said: "For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living."

Moreover, not only can God use humans to accomplish His purpose, He can also use animals. In 1 Kings 17:2-6, God sent ravens to deliver food to His servant, and they obeyed. We have equally seen Him use birds too. When we began to build the Redemption Camp in those early years, there were some trees that provided shade which I instructed the workers to preserve. Some little birds came in their hundreds of thousands to perch on these trees. Whenever they descended on them, there would be no leaves left on the trees the following day. They were also very noisy. I wondered if they were demonic birds. Some of my children who had guns would enter their midst and fire some shots; yet, they refused to go away. Some birds were hit by the fired bullets and dropped dead, but the rest stayed on. At some point, it appeared the more they were killed, the more they multiplied! The situation became unbearable.

I therefore called on God to help us one morning. That evening, several eagles came and began to eat them up. Within hours, there was not a single one of them left. God has not stopped using birds! If He needs to send birds to meet your needs, He will do so; but you need to show Him that you can serve Him with all He has given to you. How faithfully have you served God? To what extent can you risk your life and all He has given to you for His service?

Key Point:
God can mobilise all of His resources to satisfy the needs of those who can give Him their all.

Greedy Fool!!!Nigerian Dies In Malaysia After Selling Kidney For N6million

In his quest for fast money, a 28-year-
old Nigerian man identified simply as
Chukwudi, has lost his life in bizarre
circumstances after he traveled to
Malaysia to donate one of his kidneys
to a patient needing a transplant.
According to a Nigerian business man
based in that Middle East country,
Chuwkwudi is not alone in this risky
and dangerous business of selling
internal organs for money as many
young Nigerians undertake this
venture just to get rich quick.
This is what the business man (name
withheld by Pulse) reported
exclusively to Pulse:
“I know many Nigerians will say it is
none of my business how others
make their money but I want to bring
this to the notice of our country
people how many of our young men
die here in Malaysia in very
disturbing circumstances.
I can tell of this young Igbo boy
named Chukwudi, from Owerri, (Imo
State) who was paid the sum of N6
million by one rich man to donate
his kidney for a transplant.
The young man was brought in from
Nigeria and I had the privilege of
interacting with him and tried to
dissuade from undertaking such a
risky venture but he was adamant,
telling me he had made up his mind
already and nothing could stop him.
I even offered he join me in my little
car washing business from which I
have been able to build a house back
home but Chukwudi did not want to
struggle to make money.
He wanted fast money and he ended
up a dead man because the operation
was not successful. he died in the
process while the rich man had a
successful kidney transplant.
I felt so bad because I kind of liked
the boy who was graduate and had a
lot of life ahead of him.
I want to use this opportunity to
warn our young people not to always
be in a hurry to make fast money.”

Policeman Dies While Trying To Arrest Danfo Driver In Lagos

A police officer attached to Orile
Division died in a motor accident
opposite Fatgbems Filling Station,
along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway at
about 9a.m., yesterday.
It was learned that the deceased,
while attempting to apprehend a
commercial bus (Danfo) driver, who
was picking up passengers along the
road, jumped into the moving bus
with number plates KJA305XL.
The bus sped off, while trying to
escape, and hit another car with
number plates LND340DF. The
sudden stop made the policeman,
who was hanging on the bus, to fall.
An eyewitness told Vanguard that as
the cop fell, a trailer ran over him,
killing him instantly, as the
commercial bus driver and his
conductor took to their heels,
abandoning the vehicle.
Vanguard gathered that the driver of
the car, which the bus driver hit, was
travelling for his father’s burial when
he incident occurred.
Operatives of Federal Road Safety
Corps, FRSC, Lagos State Traffic
Management Agency, LASTMA, and
policemen from Trinity and Orile
Divisions were there to ensure free
flow of traffic as onlookers besieged
the area.
A passenger’s tale
A passenger in the bus, Rotimi Baki,
said: “ The policeman jumped into the
commercial bus while the bus was
moving and picking passengers at
the bus stop.
“All of a sudden, the commercial bus
driver braked and the policeman fell
off and a truck coming from behind
hit him. The vehicle in front of the
commercial bus had stopped. So the
bus driver did same.”
One of the police officers, Sergeant
Samuel, from Trinity Divisional
Police Station harassed, dragged and
seized Vanguard reporter’s mobile
phone, accusing her of celebrating
the death of his colleague.
All pleas to get back the phone fell
on deaf ears as the officers kept
shouting ‘I will deal with you. Who
gave you authority to take pictures?
You must come to our office’.
When she eventually got to their
office, the Divisional Police Officer
called the officer, who seized the
phone, and returned it to the
reporter.
Later, officers from the Trinity Police
Division took the corpse of the
Policemen to Orile Police Station and
later to Mainland Hospital Mortuary,
Yaba.

“Alleged Boko Haram Member Who Disguised As Woman Was A Nigerian Soldier” – Sahara Reporters

Several months ago, as associates of
former President Goodluck Jonathan
pushed the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone
the 2015 general elections, a video was
released of an alleged Islamist terrorist
caught in a woman’s dress.
However, a video obtained by our
correspondent revealed that the man
presented to the Nigerian public as a
Boko Haram insurgent is an enlisted
Nigerian soldier serving at the time as
a member of a multinational military
task force operating in Nigeria’s
northeast.
In making a case for postponing the
presidential election that had been
scheduled for February 14, 2015, Mr.
Jonathan’s National Security Adviser,
Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd), had
claimed that Nigeria needed to launch
an offensive to dislodge Boko Haram
from the northeast and end
insurgency.
Shortly before and after the elections
were postponed, Nigerian troops
ramped up the fight against Boko
Haram, liberating areas hitherto
captured by the insurgents.
The troops released photos of
weapons it claimed to have seized
from the insurgents. However, some
of the photos bore timestamps
indicating the shots were taken as far
back as 2011.
In an intriguing twist just uncovered
by our correspondent, the remarkable
photo and account of a man disguised
as a woman has been exposed as a
ruse as well. The military had claimed
that the man was an insurgent
captured after a fierce operation led
by the Nigerian Air Force.
But a 10-minute video clip of the
man’s interrogation showed the man
clearly revealing that he was a
soldier. During what appeared to be a
debriefing session with an officer who
was taking notes, the man explained
that he had been in hiding after Boko
Haram fighters overran his military
post. He had been in hiding until
Nigerian soldiers and Air Force
liberated his hideout.
Although the unnamed soldier wore
women clothes, he also had his army
uniform on his lap during the
interrogation. Throughout the
interrogation, the man spoke in
pidgin English. He told his
interrogators about the might of Boko
Haram fighters and described how
members of the sect moved their
families from the scene of a recent
bombing. At a point he expressed
surprise that, despite the movement
of Boko Haram fighters in long
convoys, the insurgents were never
subjected to aerial bombardment by
Air Force jets.
The soldier appeared to plead with
the senior officer debriefing him at
the end of the video, which had
apparently been edited for clarity and
brevity.
SaharaReporters was unable to reach
any senior military officer to explain
why the soldier was presented to the
public as a Boko Haram member.

What!!!Robbery Suspects Cut Bars, Escape From Police Cell (Photo)

Two of the robbery suspects, who
were arrested while they were
operating on Iju Road, in the Agege
area of Lagos, have escaped from the
police cell.
PUNCH Metro learnt that three
suspected members of the gang,
which reportedly laid siege to a hotel
and some residences of Sands Avenue,
off Iju Road, had been handed over to
the Pen Cinema Police Division,
before two of them escaped from the
cell.
It was gathered that policemen, who
were on duty on the fateful day, had
been arrested, while the fleeing
suspects had yet to be re-arrested.
Our correspondent learnt that on
Sunday, August 9, at about 2am, the
armed robbers, said to be about 10
men, invaded the area, and robbed a
hotel and some private homes.
It was learnt that the robbers carted
away money and valuables from the
hotel lodgers, workers, and other
places during the operation.
PUNCH Metro gathered that men of
the Oodua Peoples’ Congress, who
were the local vigilance group in the
area, however, apprehended three of
the robbers and took them to the Pen
Cinema Police Division.
Our correspondent learnt that the
three robbery suspects, identified as
Dare Drain, Akeem AK, and Lekan
Student, were locked up in the cell by
the policemen on duty.
It was gathered that on Wednesday
evening, two of the suspects had,
however, cut through the burglar
bars in the cell, and escaped from
custody.
Victims of the robbery and the OPC
men, who were aggrieved by the
development, were said to have been
invited by a policemen in the station,
who pacified them that the robbers
would be re-arrested.
When PUNCH Metro visited Sands
Avenue on Tuesday, the manager of
the hotel, which was robbed, declined
to give any comment.
However, one of the workers, who
spoke on condition of anonymity, said
the robbers carted away a huge
amount of money and also injured the
hotel’s guard.
He added that the robbers raped
some of the hotel’s female workers,
who had yet to resume work.
He said, “The robbery lasted for more
than an hour. We were helpless. The
robbers overpowered our security
guard and injured him.
“They carted away valuables. They
raped some of our female workers
during the operation. I was told that
the OPC men later caught three of
them and took them to the police
station.”

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, the OPC
coordinator in the area, who did not
want his name in print, said they
were taken aback when the police in
the Pen Cinema station told them that
two of the suspects escaped from the
cell.
He added that the suspects, who had
yet to be re-arrested, raped some of
their victims during the operation,
including a 13-year-old.
He said, “The security man at the
hotel, who is our member, recognised
one of the robbers and led us to his
place, where he was arrested. The
man confessed to taking part in the
operation. His name is Dare Drain,
and he was caught in the Idi-Agbon
area of Ifako.
“He was the one who took the OPC
men to arrest the other two. The three
that were caught on Sunday were
taken to the police station.
“It was on Wednesday that
information got to us that Drain and
Akeem have escaped from the cell.
We were shocked at the development.
The DPO then invited us, and pleaded
with us to assist the police with
information to re-arrest them, adding
that the policemen on duty had been
detained.
“But as we speak, we have not got
them. What the police told us was
that the robbers cut the burglar bars,
and escaped from the cell. The
robbers, apart from carting away
money, also raped their victims.
“The robbers were led by Dare Drain,
he and his boys had earlier come to
Tarkwa Crescent, before the Sands
Avenue incident.”
Our correspondent learnt from a
source that the robbery suspects
lurked around Oju Irin area in Agege
mostly at night.
The Lagos State Police Public
Relations Officer, DSP Patricia
Amadin, however, said in a text
message that there was no truth in
the incident.

Landlord Sets Tenant Ablaze In Lagos, Pushes Him Down From 3 Storey Building (Photo)

A landlord in the Idumota, Lagos
Island area of Lagos State, Sola
Solomon, has allegedly poured petrol
and set fire to one of his tenants,
identified simply as Abeeb, aka
Ogbon.
PUNCH Metro learnt that as the victim
struggled to put out the flames, the
67-year-old landlord pushed him
down from the top floor of the three-
storey building.
The father of one was said to have
landed with a thud, as the flames ate
through his body.
Our correspondent was told that
Abeeb had barely spent five months
in the house located on Iga
Idunganran Street, Idumota, when he
was killed.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the
incident was caused by a
disagreement over the use of the
compound toilet.
A tenant in the house, who spoke on
condition of anonymity, explained
that the quarrel had been settled in
the evening and she had pleaded with
both parties to maintain the peace.
She said, “Before the incident of
yesterday (Monday), there has been a
quarrel in the house over the use of
the toilet.
“Everybody had complained that the
landlord always messed up the toilet
after use.
“But yesterday, he had another
quarrel with the Abeeb over the use
of the toilet. During the argument, he
threatened to set the man ablaze; the
man also dared him.
“I called Abeeb and calmed him
down; I also called the landlord and
appealed to him to let the matter go,
and he said he had forgiven Abeeb.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that the
landlord, however, was sighted by
residents later that evening carrying a
jerrycan, saying he was going to buy
fuel.
The Ondo State indigene was alleged
to have bought the fuel and waited
patiently in his room till the victim
returned from a football viewing
centre where he had gone to watch an
European league match between
Arsenal and Liverpool football clubs.
It was learnt that around 12am, the
landlord wet the passageway of the
house and knocked on the door of the
deceased.
Another tenant, who asked not to be
named, said the victim’s wife pleaded
with him not to go out.
The continuous rap on the door was
said to have forced Abeeb out to
confront the intruder, only to see the
landlord with a container of fuel.
He said, “As he stepped out of the
house, the landlord poured the petrol
on him. Before Abeeb could snatch
the jerrycan from him, the landlord
had ignited fire with a lighter in his
hand.
“Abeeb struggled to put out the fire,
but the landlord pushed him down
from the third floor. He fell to the
ground and died.”
Our correspondent gathered that the
quick intervention of security guards
in the area stopped the fire from
escalating.
The other tenants in the house were
said to have abandoned the building
and fled for fear of being killed.
PUNCH Metro learnt that policemen
from the Adeniji Adele Police Division
later arrived at the scene to remove
Abeeb’s corpse. The police also took
the landlord, who sustained burns
injuries to the hospital.
A resident, John Ameh, said the
landlord was initially rejected at the
Lagos Island General Hospital and was
taken to the Gbagada General
Hospital.
The former occupant of Abeeb’s
room, Ruka Rufai, regretted passing
the room to the deceased, saying she
left the room due to constant threat to
her life from the landlord.
She said, “I left that the room about
five months ago. The landlord
threatened me, so I decided to vacate
the room. Abeeb pleaded with me
that he needed the accommodation.
Now, he has been killed.”
One of Abeeb’s friends, who did not
want to be identified, expressed
doubt that the suspect would face
justice.
The friend, who claimed to be in the
same football academy with the
victim, said he was shocked when he
learnt about the incident on the
Facebook wall of a mutual friend.
PUNCH Metro was told that grief-
stricken friends of the victim had
planned to set the house ablaze, but
could not due to the heavy presence
of security agents.
A resident, Habib Suleiman, urged the
state government to pursue the case
against the suspect to a logical end
and seize the property.
The Police Public Relations Officer,
Patricia Amadin, had yet to get back
to our correspondent when contacted
on the development as of the time of
filing this report.
