Medics in Maiduguri informed the press that the
real death toll from multiple suicide bombings in
Maiduguri on September 20 turned out to be
much higher than it was thought previously.
While immediately after the bombings linked to
Boko Haram 54 people were officially confirmed
dead, on Tuesday the death toll has risen to no
less than 117 – more than twice more than it
was declared officially immediately after the
blasts.

While 72 dead bodies were taken to the
mortuary at the University of Maiduguri
Teaching Hospital, another 45 dead victims
were transported from the scene to the Borno
State Specialist Hospital.
Multiple explosions rocked Maiduguri, the
capital of Borno state, on Sunday, September
20, leaving scores of people dead and many
others injured.
The attack was launched at Ajilari railway
cross in Gomari Airport ward of Maiduguri
metropolis. The assault was believed to have
been masterminded by suicide bombers who
simultaneously detonated the explosives around
7.38pm. The last explosion was heard about
8pm.
On the same day at least twenty seven people
killed and 62 more injured, some of them
critically, in a new suicide bombing attack in
Borno state in Monguno, about 135 kilometres
from Maiduguri. One of the injured in Monguno
later died from his wounds in Maiduguri.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai,
the chief of army staff has described the
claims of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau
in a new audio that was released on September
20, as mere noise making.
“Have you seen any of them coming out apart
from the suicide bombings? You can see the
number of terrorists that are escaping from their
camps; he is just making noise to remain
relevant, “ said the chief of army staff.
